How the Name Finder works
- Data. US Social Security baby name files through 2025; names given to at least 50 babies that year.
- Trend. Rising = up 25% or more in ten years. Cooling = down 25% or more. Established = within 25% and 1,000+ babies.
- Popularity. Rank among all names, boys and girls added together. Rare means outside the top 1,000.
- Style. Nature is our own list. Classic names were in the top 300 in 1960 and still have 500+ babies. Modern names first reached 1,000 babies in 2000 or later.
- Length. The number of syllables is estimated and can be off for some names.
- Gender. Unisex means neither gender is above 90%.
- Siblings, nicknames, sounds-like, initials. Rule-based ideas from the letters, length, style and popularity of names. They are suggestions, not facts about a name’s meaning or origin.
